Reading Power Zone - Explanation

Description of the Reading Power Zone and Functionality

Written by Jeremy Brown

Students will be assigned to their appropriate Lexile band and do their assigned work in Reading Power Zone - a galactic library!

The students will see two floors of the library at a time. They will start on the first floor and work their way UP.

All students, no matter their Lexile band, will start with the same view on the same Floor number (one!) and work their way up through the library, seeing a cool new tower and view of space for each set of Floors.

This will ensure that students aren’t getting a different view than their peers, no matter their Lexile measure.

On each floor is a Subgroup of the Lexile band, represented by three icons.

  1. The Book Nook

    1. Students will choose 4 of 5 books to read, followed by an engagement activity

  2. The Key Book

    1. Students will read a required book followed by a comprehension quiz

  3. The Treasure

    1. Students will get free stars for completing the Floor

Students will see a new “tower” every two floors.

Inside The Book Nook

Students get the choice of which 4 of the 5 books they’d like to read.

  • Users will only need to pick 4 of the 5 books to move forward.

  • Completion Banner

    • When four books are complete, students will see a banner to inform them that they can move on if they want to.

Instructions will no longer show at the top – the green banner now shows the instruction.

    • When 5 books are complete, students will see a new banner.

No Default Requirement to Listen

Unlike Level Up, where Listen is required by default, Listen is not required by default in the Reading Power Zone. Teachers can set this requirement in their Reading Power Zone settings.
