Reading Checkpoint (Assessment)
From the students’ perspective, the Reading Growth Assessment will be referred to as the Reading Checkpoint.
Assessment Flow
Auto-Assignment: The assessment is automatically assigned three times per year, based on the students’ school year.
This can be disabled by the teacher for his/her students or by the TLC (admin) for the entire subscription.
Mandatory Focus on Assessment: When an assessment has been assigned, students attempting to enter Reading or Foundations will be redirected to their assessment.
Students entering other products will not be redirected.
Assessment Intro: Spark frames the task for the students and encourages them to do well. (See screens below)
Locator test: This is a “pre-assessment” used to find appropriate Express test forms for students without a grade level or with a non-grade specific grade set (such as other or 7-12).
This will be used by a student only once, for their first assessment. It is 10 questions.
Teachers will have no view of the Locator test or results. This is only used to get a student to the appropriate next step.
Express test: This is the actual assessment. This will provide a Lexile measure for the student. Students will use (a version of) this test 3 times per year. It is 30 questions.
Reward Screen: Students receive 300 stars for completing their assessment
Placement: Upon completion of the assessment, the student’s Lexile measure will be used for placement into the appropriate Lexile band of Reading Power Zone. If their measure is below the threshold for Reading Power Zone, the student will use Explore Zone instead.
Eligible for Assessment
Most students with RP/FAZ are eligible for the Reading Growth Assessment (Reading Checkpoint). See possible exceptions below:
Teachers of Pre-K students (or students assigned to Pre-K under a teacher with multiple grades) will not see or have access to the Reading Growth Assessment because it is not appropriate for that level.
International Subscriptions (or any subscription) may choose to disable the assessment via Content Refinement in the LC account. This will remove all visibility into the assessment for all teachers on the subscription.
Assessment Item Types
There are four item types in the MetaMetrics assessment. Item types are grouped within the assessment.
