To enhance reading assessment in Raz-Plus Español, Benchmark Passages have been replaced with Read-Retell-Respond Assessments.
Designed for students in Grades 2–5, these assessments provide teachers with a
structured way to evaluate fluency, comprehension, and students' ability to communicate their understanding of a text.
Read-Retell-Respond Assessments can be assigned directly to students, making it easy to incorporate them into classroom instruction and monitor reading progress.
Important: This change only impacts customers who have the Raz-Plus Español add-on. Customers who have Raz-Plus only are not affected by this update.
How do Read-Retell-Respond Assessments work?
Each assessment includes three parts:
Read: Students read a passage aloud, allowing teachers to observe reading fluency and accuracy.
Retell: Students explain the passage in their own words, demonstrating their understanding of the text.
Respond: Students answer comprehension questions that measure their ability to interpret and think about what they have read.
By combining these activities, teachers gain a broader understanding of each student's reading skills.
