To enhance reading assessment in Raz-Plus, Benchmark Passages have been replaced with Read-Retell-Respond Assessments.
Designed for students in Grades 2–5, these assessments provide teachers with a structured way to evaluate fluency, comprehension, and students' ability to communicate their understanding of a text.
Read-Retell-Respond Assessments can be assigned directly to students, making it easy to incorporate them into classroom instruction and monitor reading progress.
How do Read-Retell-Respond Assessments work?
Each assessment includes three parts:
Read: Students read a passage aloud, allowing teachers to observe reading fluency and accuracy.
Retell: Students explain the passage in their own words, demonstrating their understanding of the text.
Respond: Students answer comprehension questions that measure their ability to interpret and think about what they have read.
By combining these activities, teachers gain a broader understanding of each student's reading skills.

The Reading Power Zone (RPZ) has replaced the Level Up feature, offering an enhanced independent reading experience. Students can access the RPZ under the Reading tab or Reading Planet in Kids A-Z once they have a Lexile measure assigned or complete the RGA.
