Speech Recognition Tool Retirement

Updated over a week ago

What’s New:
The Speech Recognition Tool is being removed from Raz-Plus. It is being replaced with:

  • Multiple choice and drag-and-drop questions targeting phonics, decoding, high-frequency words, and phonological awareness.

  • New Fluency Assessments that measure Words Correct Per Minute (WCPM), administered by teachers.

Why It Matters:
While Speech Recognition was helpful for some, it posed challenges:

  • Inaccurate scoring due to accents, dialects, and single-sound recognition.

  • Technical difficulties for young learners.

  • Environmental and equipment limitations in classrooms.

These updates improve reliability and align better with classroom realities and the Science of Reading.
