High-Frequency Word Assessments

Updated this week

Current research emphasizes that high-frequency words (HFWs) should be taught using a defined scope and sequence to ensure alignment with phonics instruction. The existing High-Frequency Word Assessments on Raz-Plus do not accommodate the diverse scopes and sequences used by educators. As a result, students may be assessed on words containing phonics patterns they have not yet been introduced to—potentially leading to inaccurate results and instructional misalignment.

What alternative content in Raz-Plus should customers utilize instead?

  1. Raz-Plus High-Frequency Word Flash Cards: Use these cards to assess students based on your own scope and sequence.

  2. Foundations A-Z High-Frequency Word Flash Cards: Assess using either your custom sequence or the Foundations A-Z scope and sequence.

  3. Foundations A-Z High-Frequency Words Practice Sheets: Reinforce and assess HFWs with practice sheets aligned to your instructional sequence or ours.

  4. Foundations A-Z Unit Assessments based on scope and sequence: These assessments are built around a structured scope and sequence, ensuring alignment with phonics instruction.
