Instructional Uses of Reading A-Z

Last Updated: Jun 09, 2016 11:22AM MST
Reading A-Z resources can be used in a variety of ways, both for in-class instruction and at-home practice. Reading A-Z has a wide range of genres, levels, and resource types to help educators whether they have one student or a full class. We also offer resources specific to targeted uses:

Response to Intervention (RtI) - RtI is the practice of providing research-based, high-quality instruction and progress monitoring to struggling students. With Reading A-Z, you can effectively match resources to multiple tiers of instruction to meet student need, maximize efficiency of instructional time, regularly monitor progress, and provide ongoing and repeated practice.

Special Education - Three keys to any successful Special Education program are matching resources to a student's developmental level, providing opportunities for practice with a purpose, and providing motivation and feedback. Reading A-Z provides a wealth of leveled PreK-6 resources that can be customized for any Special Education teaching program — from full-class and small-group instruction to individual practice and one-to-one intervention.

Summer School  - Support academic success for all students through continued reading instruction and practice during the summer months. Skill-based theme packs provide all the necessary resources for summer school sessions of any duration. Summer reading contracts motivate students to practice literacy skills while also striving to achieve a self-set goal.

Balanced Literacy - Many balanced literacy models are composed of three major components: Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop, and Word Work. Reading A-Z provides a wealth of leveled Pre K-6 resources that can be used in a balanced literacy setting—from whole-class and small-group instruction to individual practice.

Tutoring & Mentoring  - Tutors support classroom instructions by providing students reading practice to improve their reading skills. Reading A-Z's tutoring and mentoring packs provide volunteer tutors with developmentally appropriate resources organized into six instructional categories that reading experts have defined as keys to developing successful readers.
